Closed Course vs. Public Street Road Tests
Understanding the difference between Minnesota road test types can help you choose the best fit.
Closed Course Testing
- Testing takes place on a dedicated driving course owned by the exam station
- No regular traffic is present
- Driving situations are more controlled and predictable
Public Street Testing
- Testing occurs on real city streets
- Students encounter traffic, pedestrians, signs, and signals
- Provides more real-world driving situations
Both options are fully accepted by Minnesota DVS.
Students typically choose based on comfort level, location, and appointment availability.
