Road Test Checklist

Everything you need to know before taking your Minnesota road test.

1. Behind-the-Wheel Completion (e-Card System)

The MN Department of Public Safety uses an electronic completion card (e-card) for behind-the-wheel training.

When ReadySetDrive! submits your information, the DVS will send a confirmation email from: no_reply@state.mn.us

This email confirms you are now eligible to take the road test (the same system used for the permit test).

If you don't see the email:

  • Check your junk or spam folder
  • If you still don't receive it, contact ReadySetDrive!

2. Schedule Your Road Test

You may schedule your road test 30 days before your 16th birthday.

  • Exam stations are extremely busy — schedule as early as possible.
  • Drivers under 18 must hold an instruction permit for six months with no moving violations or alcohol/drug violations.

This form becomes the paperwork needed for your driver's license, and completing it ahead of time saves you time at the testing station — you won't need to fill out forms in person on the day of your test.

  • Print your confirmation and bring it with you.
  • You must be 16 to complete the form.
  • If your test is on your 16th birthday, you'll complete this form the morning of your test.
